The graduates of the Faculty of Law, Lead City University, Ibadan, have expressed shock and anger at the recent decision of the National Universities Commission (NUC) to close down the faculty within two weeks and revoke the certificates of its graduates.

While reacting to the decision made known through the media by the Executive Secretary of the commission, Professor Julius Okojie, on January 7, the spokesman for the group, Mr Muyiwa Osinbola, described the decision as administrative recklessness and insensitivity to the plights of the students and the public.

In an interaction with the Nigerian Tribune, on Wednesday, the group said that the declaration by Professor Okojie and the follow-up press conference by Professor Bichi on the accreditation status of the law faculty was a surprise, adding that the commission had been to the university on several occasions since 2005 when the first set of graduates gained admission to the university and had never raised any issue as to the validity of the course.

“NUC as a regulatory body is saddled with the responsibility of protecting the interest of the students and the public. If we could be left to study the course for five years and they did not come out for one day on national television to warn us and they are now coming out after six years, including one for compulsory service to fatherland, then there are problems with the commission,” he stated.
