The Kwara State Fire Service made a tragic discovery on Thursday when they recovered the body of a 49-year-old man and rescued his 17-year-old son from a domestic well in Offa town.

The man, identified as Fasasi Afeez, and his son Kaleed Afeez of Gaa Jangbo, Igbonna Road Offa, in Offa local government area of Kwara State, fell into the well. Unfortunately, while the man was retrieved lifeless, his son was successfully rescued.

The incident took place around 04:11 pm, prompting a swift response from the fire brigade after receiving a distress call from Alhaji Taiye Gbadamosi, a resident in the neighborhood.

According to reports, the rescued boy had gone to fetch water from the domestic well when one of his legs slipped, causing him to tumble into the well. In a desperate attempt to save his son, the father also fell into the well.

Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, expressed deep sorrow over the incident. He emphasized the importance of caution in daily activities and urged the public to refrain from sending underage children to fetch water from domestic wells.

This unfortunate incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with inadequate safety measures and the importance of vigilance in preventing such tragedies.
