Former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has made startling revelations regarding the extent of crude oil theft plaguing the nation, stating that over 80% of Nigeria's crude oil production is being stolen.

Speaking at the launch of Dr. Umar Ardo's book, 'Court and Politics,' in Abuja, Obasanjo, represented by former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu, highlighted the dire economic consequences of rampant oil theft. He lamented Nigeria's inability to accurately account for its oil production, unlike other oil-producing nations, attributing this to pervasive theft.

Obasanjo emphasized that the Nigerian economy suffers greatly due to crude oil theft, estimating that out of a daily quota of two million barrels, over 1.7 million are stolen.

Regarding the country's governance system, Obasanjo defended the presidential system, stating that the problem lies in the failure of Nigerians to adhere to its principles rather than inherent flaws in the system itself.

Meanwhile, Prof. Ango Abdullahi, former Chairman of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) and ex-Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), delivered a scathing assessment of Nigeria's leadership, asserting that it has failed the populace.

Abdullahi stressed the urgent need for the country to address its leadership deficit and cultivate a more effective political culture. He urged a collective acknowledgment of past failures and called for a national reevaluation to chart a more successful course forward.

Expressing frustration over the nation's energy crisis, Abdullahi highlighted Nigeria's struggle to generate an adequate supply of electricity despite its large population, citing this as another failure of governance.

In his impassioned plea, Abdullahi urged a return to the drawing board to salvage Nigeria from its current challenges, advocating for candid discussions and decisive action to propel the nation towards progress and prosperity.
