Nimi Wariboko, a distinguished Professor of Social Ethics hailing from Boston University in the United States, has raised significant concerns regarding the performance of President Bola Tinubu, asserting that the leader has yet to deliver tangible results to justify his preparedness for the presidency.

Wariboko, a noted author and former investment banker, articulated his perspective during an interview on Inside Sources with Laolu Akande, broadcasted on Channels Television on Friday, March 1, 2024. His remarks come precisely one year after Tinubu's victory in the 2023 presidential election under the All Progressives Congress (APC) banner.

Despite Tinubu's inauguration on May 29 and subsequent rollout of various economic reform policies, including the removal of petrol subsidies and the floating of the naira, Wariboko contends that these initiatives have exacerbated economic hardships for many Nigerians without clear strategies to mitigate their impact.

In the professor's assessment, the administration appears to be faltering, lacking a coherent vision and resorting to reactionary measures rather than proactive planning. Wariboko emphasized the need for concrete plans to address the adverse consequences of these reforms on the populace.

"Eight months into a government system is too long not to have a plan," Wariboko asserted, underscoring the urgency for decisive action amidst mounting economic challenges.

Furthermore, Wariboko lamented the absence of a discernible vision within the current administration, characterizing its policies as ad hoc responses to immediate crises rather than part of a comprehensive strategy.

As the Nigerian economy grapples with unprecedented challenges, including hyperinflation, forex instability, and soaring living costs, citizens are increasingly feeling the pinch. The repercussions of the petrol subsidy removal and naira flotation have pushed many to the brink, spurring protests in various parts of the country.

Wariboko's critique adds to the growing chorus of voices expressing skepticism about the trajectory of Tinubu's presidency and underscores the pressing need for effective governance and economic stewardship in Nigeria's time of crisis.
