In a significant breakthrough, the police in Lagos have apprehended two robbery suspects who were operating under the guise of alms beggars amidst traffic congestion in the city.
The incident unfolded in the bustling Agungi area of Lekki, where the duo targeted a motorist trapped in a gridlock on Friday. Seemingly innocuous, they approached the vehicle, soliciting alms from the unsuspecting driver. However, their seemingly benign facade quickly gave way to aggression as they forcefully snatched the motorist's mobile phone and jewelry before making a swift escape.
According to SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police spokesperson in Lagos State, swift action by a nearby police patrol team led to the immediate arrest of the perpetrators. The stolen items were promptly recovered from the suspects, who now await arraignment for their crimes.
In a separate incident highlighting the vigilance of residents and business operators, Hundeyin revealed that a woman was apprehended for attempting to conduct a fraudulent transaction using counterfeit currency. The suspect, seeking to transact a business worth N90,000 with a Point of Sale (PoS) machine operator, attempted to pass off fake N1,000 notes as legitimate currency.
Fortunately, the astute PoS operator detected the counterfeit bills and raised the alarm, prompting the swift intervention of law enforcement authorities. The woman now remains in custody pending further investigation into her illicit activities.
These incidents underscore the importance of public vigilance and collaborative efforts in combating criminal activities within the community. As law enforcement agencies continue to prioritize public safety and security, residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior or criminal activities promptly.
