Tensions within the Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have escalated following the suspension of Maryam Suleiman, popularly known as Mai Rusau, the party's women leader, over allegations of insubordination and defamation.
Suleiman, in a recently surfaced video, launched scathing accusations against Governor Uba Sani, accusing him of betraying the loyalty shown by his predecessor, Nasir El-Rufai. She reminisced about El-Rufai's extensive efforts in lobbying party leaders and former President Muhammadu Buhari to secure Sani's candidacy for the Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the 9th National Assembly.
Hailing from the Badarawa/Mailali Ward in Kaduna State, Suleiman asserted that El-Rufai had gone to great lengths to facilitate Sani's rise to power, including the removal of former Senator Shehu Sani to create an opening for the governor.
However, Suleiman's vocal criticism of Governor Sani's administration and his aide, Manzo Maigari, reportedly led to her suspension from her position as women leader within the party. She was accused of tarnishing the governor's reputation and engaging in unauthorized dissemination of party disputes, which undermined the party's credibility.
The disciplinary action against Suleiman underscores the deep-rooted factionalism and internal power struggles within the Kaduna APC, highlighting the challenges faced by the party in maintaining unity and cohesion amidst political tensions. As the fallout continues, observers anticipate further developments within the party hierarchy and potential ramifications for its political landscape.
