No fewer than two persons were feared dead in a bloody communal crisis between Tiv and Jukun youths at Agatashi Community in the North Bank area of Makurdi town.

It was gathered that the crisis which also led to the razing of several houses in the community initially started Sunday afternoon in what many thought was a cult clash.

But it escalated into a fight between Tiv and Jukun youths who engaged in a bitter fight that also left several persons injured.

Commander of Operation Shara, a vigilante group in North Bank area, Nuru Shara confirmed the incident.

He told newsmen on phone that the incident began on Easter Sunday when some youths went on rampage attacking each other.

He said “On Easter Sunday, when the people were in church, some boys attacked them in church and they shot two people who are receiving treatment in the hospital now.

“The story is not good at all. They burnt many houses at Agatashi Community, by the Abattoir under the bridge. The fight is between the Jukun and Tiv youths.

“And on Monady morning they continued with the fight. Some boys collected the motorbike of somebody and killed him. They also killed another roadside trader in the area. They were buried today.”

The Caretaker Chairman of Makurdi Local Government Area, LGA, James Dwem, who visited the area confirmed the development and appealed to the feuding parties to sheath their sword.

The Benue State Police Commissioner, Mr. Emmanuel Adesina who deployed personnel to the area to quell the crisis was reported to have also visited the community.
