
The Yobe State Police Command has apprehended Sani Musa, a phone snatcher accused of stabbing a 24-year-old woman, Sheba Simon, in Damaturu, the state capital.
According to reports, Ms. Simon, a salesgirl, was attacked by the suspect while on her way home from work on Saturday, April 27, 2024. Musa allegedly assaulted her with a jackknife and stole her cellphone during the incident.
In a statement issued by DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, the spokesperson of the command, it was disclosed that the suspect confessed to the crime following his arrest on Wednesday, May 1.
"The Command Police Response Unit (Haba Maza), in a joint intelligence-led operation with the State Intelligent Department and personnel of C Divisional Police Headquarters, apprehended One Sani Musa, AKA 'Regis Oga Soja,' aged 22 years old of Nayi Nawa ward, Damaturu," the statement read.
"On 30th April 2024 at about 23:30hrs, the culprit was apprehended with the snatched cellphone, Itel A663LC / MTN Sim Card, and assorted charms, unequivocally confessing to the commission of the crime during police interrogation."
Expressing relief at the successful operation, Commissioner of Police, CP Garba Ahmed, commended the effectiveness and timeliness of the arrest. He urged officers to maintain vigilance and ensure that Yobe State becomes an inhospitable environment for criminals.
The Commissioner also thanked community members for their steadfast support in combating crime and emphasized the importance of collective efforts in ensuring the safety and security of all residents.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing, with proactive measures being implemented to prevent similar incidents in the future. The command has called for continued cooperation from the public in this endeavor.
