In a shocking turn of events, a 44-year-old former bank employee, Mike Ilishebo, has been implicated in a tragic murder-suicide case involving his 35-year-old wife, Valerie Franco, in Zambia.
The harrowing incident unfolded in the serene surroundings of Meanwood Ndeke Phase One area in Lusaka on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, leaving the community reeling in disbelief.
Rae Hamoonga, the Police Public Relations officer, confirmed the heartbreaking episode in a statement issued on Thursday, April 4, shedding light on the grim details of the tragedy.
According to Hamoonga, Mr. Ilishebo allegedly strangled Valerie with an electric power adapter cable and inflicted fatal stab wounds to her abdomen using a knife. Subsequently, he took his own life by consuming a poisonous substance.
"Yesterday, Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at approximately 16:05 hours, Chelston Police Station, through Ndeke-vorna Police Post, received a distressing report from Alice Mapulanga, 38, that Mr. Ilishebo has perpetrated a heinous act against his wife, Valerie, aged 35," he stated.
Upon police arrival at the scene, Ms. Franco's lifeless body was discovered in the bedroom, adjacent to the bed, with a knife embedded in her abdomen. Meanwhile, Mr. Ilishebo was found deceased in the sitting room, with telltale signs of poisoning evident.
The tragic sequence of events is believed to have unfolded between 15:00 and 16:00 hours, marking a swift and devastating end to the couple's troubled relationship.
Both bodies have been transported to the University Teaching Hospital mortuary for further examination, as authorities grapple to comprehend the motive behind this senseless act.
Hamoonga noted that the incident appears to stem from a prolonged marital dispute between the couple, who were parents to an eight-month-old child, adding another layer of heartache to an already tragic narrative.
