Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State was rocked by violence as reports emerged of the demise of notorious bandit Sani Dangote, along with his two brothers and several of his fighters, in a fierce clash with a rival faction led by the infamous Dankarami.
According to a top security intelligence source within the area, the deadly confrontation erupted in the Dumburum Forest following a dispute over cattle rustling. Dankarami, allegedly rustling cows belonging to Dangote, triggered the violent exchange.
The gun battle commenced around 2 pm on Sunday and raged on until approximately 6 pm, resulting in numerous casualties among the bandits involved.
"Dankarami rustled cows belonging to Sani Dangote. That was the cause of the fight between the two bandits’ leaders, but Dankarami killed Dangote and his two brothers. The fight started at about 2 pm till around 6 pm," the source revealed.
This incident follows recent clashes between rival bandit groups in the region. In a separate confrontation in Dajin Haja, located in the forest between Hayin Alhaji and Munhaye forest of the Tsafe Local Government Area, scores of bandits were reportedly killed.
The conflict erupted when a group of bandits from neighboring Katsina State launched an incursion into Zamfara communities, intending to carry out kidnappings using 41 motorcycles. However, a local bandit kingpin known as Ado Alero, operating from Munhaye forest, intervened to prevent the abduction of villagers by the rival faction.
The spate of violence underscores the ongoing security challenges faced by communities in Zamfara State, as rivalries among bandit groups continue to escalate, resulting in loss of life and destabilization of the region.
