With the recent spate of unfortunate incidents happening to some youth corps members at their duty-posts, do you think the NYSC scheme should be eradicated? Being the kind of country Nigeria is with so much insecurity coupled with the hassles these 'youth corpers' usually go through, do the reasons for the establishment of the scheme justify these hardships and mishaps?

Hardships and Mishaps are part of human experiences in Life. If you have not entered the scheme, it worths experiencing. You make friends, get some military training, partake in traditions and cultures of  other people and tribes and prepare for future endeavours. Thank God I did mine 26 years ago in Takum -formerly in the then Gongola state. From UNILAG to Takum and I really enjoyed the service. I would suggest some modifications and modernisations to the scheme with the present situations in the country.

Guess u are right...I've gone pass that stage but I agree it's worth experiences without some of the ills being experienced 2day....and yes, there is need for some modifications too but which would u suggest?

I strongly believed that NYSC should not be abolished relying on the current unsecured Nigeria. The youth who are going for that National Service used to witness the hardships and how bad is the situation. We have to remember that youth are the leaders of tomorrow. If they see the hardships and the areas where the problem is, they will be able to tackle it. But, without them seeing for themselves, how could they tackle those problems? All I can support, is that some modifications has to be done in order to make the scheme more effective and to avoid wastage of too much money being spent on the scheme.
