Raphael Moses, a 32-year-old businessman, finds himself behind bars after an Upper Customary Court in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, remanded him in a correctional facility on charges of defiling an eight-year-old girl.
According to a report by *The Daily Sentinel*, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) brought the accusations against Moses, alleging him of defilement.
The court heard that Catherine Denis, the mother of the victim, reported the incident to the NSCDC headquarters in Kafanchan on April 22. Marcus Audu, the NSCDC Prosecutor, detailed that Moses allegedly lured the young girl into his room before committing the act.
Audu informed the court that Moses was apprehended by concerned neighbors who swiftly transported him to the Salama segxwal Assault Referral Centre.
The accused's actions, as outlined by Audu, are said to have contravened Section 259 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law.
Presiding over the case, Judge Michael Bawa refused to accept Moses' plea. Instead, he ordered that the case file be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.
The court adjourned the proceedings until May 19 to await guidance from the DPP on further legal actions.
