In a significant breakthrough, the Yobe State Police Command has apprehended a 23-year-old suspect, Saminu Garba, believed to be a key figure in the vandalism of electricity power cables in Damaturu and surrounding areas.

This development comes swiftly on the heels of the state government's initiation of spiritual warfare against insurgents responsible for damaging electricity towers connecting Yobe and Borno to the national grid.

DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, the spokesperson for the Yobe State Police Command, disclosed in a statement released on Friday, May 17, that the arrest followed numerous reports of vandalism targeting electricity power distribution cables and vital accessories across various communities.

"On May 16, around 1:00 PM, officers from the C Divisional Police Headquarters intercepted one Saminu Garba, 23, of Maiduguri, Borno State," stated DSP Abdulkarim.

The suspect was apprehended alongside two other members of the syndicate, who managed to evade arrest and flee the scene. The police have launched an intensive manhunt to capture the fleeing suspects promptly.

Abdulkarim revealed that the arrested suspect confessed to his involvement in the vandalism of an electricity transformer located at the state low-cost area via Gujba Road in Damaturu.

The swift action by law enforcement underscores the commitment of the Yobe State Police Command to combatting criminal activities and ensuring the safety and security of residents.

As investigations continue into the incident, authorities remain vigilant in their efforts to curb vandalism and safeguard critical infrastructure essential for the well-being and development of communities across the state.
