Tensions flared once again in Kano as protests erupted over the ongoing power struggle for the Emir's throne between Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II and the deposed Emir, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero.
Despite the governor's directive, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, the dethroned Emir, has remained entrenched in the palace, refusing to yield.
Reports from Daily Trust indicate that on Sunday afternoon, around 4:00 pm, a group of young residents took to the streets of Kano in a demonstration calling for the reinstatement of the ousted monarch.
The protesters, fueled by frustration and dissent, marched through the city streets, chanting slogans against the government and demanding justice for their deposed leader. Some even ignited a bonfire along a major thoroughfare as a symbol of their defiance.
While a significant police presence was noted in the area, there were no immediate attempts to disperse the demonstrators.
The protest, which followed a special prayer session, saw the aggrieved residents making their way towards the palace, where Emir Sanusi currently holds court.
The resurgence of protests underscores the deep-seated divisions and grievances within the community, signaling a continued challenge for authorities in restoring calm and resolving the Emirate's leadership crisis.
