A tragic incident occurred in the Kanshio community, a suburb of Makurdi, Benue State, where Terhide Garfa allegedly took his own life on Thursday. The body was discovered inside a transformer enclosure, leaving residents and authorities baffled.
An eyewitness, Nick, who resides in the area, recounted the grim discovery at approximately 3:45 pm. "It remains a mystery how Garfa entered the fenced transformer area," Nick said. He further mentioned that someone had heard Garfa expressing a desire to speak with his mother, threatening self-harm if unable to do so. Shortly after, his lifeless body was found near the transformer.
Adakole Elijah, the Corporate Affairs Manager of Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED), described the incident as highly unusual. "We found it strange that a transformer, which was fully fenced, could be accessed in this manner," Elijah stated. He raised concerns about whether it was a suicide or an attempted vandalism, noting that the pictorial evidence suggested Garfa forced his way into the transformer.
Elijah emphasized JED's continual warnings to the public to avoid its installations, underscoring the unexpected nature of the event. "We don't really know what happened," he added.
Confirming the incident, Catherine Anene, the Police Public Relations Officer for Benue State Command, assured that an investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances leading to Garfa's death. The community remains in shock as authorities work to uncover the details behind this perplexing and tragic occurrence.
