
A young man, yet to be identified, was electrocuted near the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) centre in Otukpo, Benue State, after attempting to vandalize a transformer. The incident occurred late on Friday when power was unexpectedly restored by the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC).
According to reports, the man had successfully tampered with the transformer on a high-tension pole before the electricity was reconnected, resulting in his immediate electrocution. His lifeless body was discovered dangling from the pole on Saturday morning, attracting a large crowd of onlookers.
"We came this morning and found the body suspended from the electric pole at a transformer with tools in his hand," a source at the scene reported.
As of the time of this report, officials from the electricity distribution company were in the process of retrieving the deceased from the pole. The incident has sparked discussions about the dangers and consequences of vandalizing electrical infrastructure.
