
Nigerian Army troops from 1 Division have apprehended 47 individuals suspected of vandalizing rail tracks during a routine patrol along Kakau Daji- Anguwan Ayaba route.
According to a statement released by the Nigerian Army Headquarters on Saturday, the operation, conducted on June 26, 2024, led to the arrest of the suspects who were caught in the act of loading vandalized rail tracks onto two trucks. The suspects implicated one Alhaji Babawo, who remains at large, as their employer.
During profiling and preliminary investigations conducted at 312 Artillery Regiment Kaduna, the Acting Commander of 1 Division Provost Group, Lt. Col. IY Rena, disclosed that efforts were underway to apprehend the gang leader. He emphasized the thoroughness of individual interviews and cross-examinations to ascertain each suspect's role in the crime.
A visit to the crime scene revealed additional vandalized rail tracks concealed in nearby bushes, awaiting transport by the criminal syndicate.
The suspects have since been handed over to the Nigeria Railway Corporation authorities at Kaduna Station for further investigation and prosecution.
