In a devastating turn of events, eight individuals have tragically lost their lives following the collapse of a one-storey building in the Kuntau area of Gwale Local Government Area, Kano State.
The incident unfolded early Friday morning as labourers were actively engaged in construction work on the site. Reports indicate that around 15 people, including the building's owner, construction workers, and passersby, sought refuge inside the structure amidst an early morning rainfall.
Upon the collapse, immediate efforts to rescue those trapped under the rubble were mobilized. Sharu’s wife, upon hearing of the collapse, rushed to the scene, desperately calling for assistance. Local residents and bystanders joined in the rescue operation, working fervently to extricate survivors.
According to sources, seven injured individuals were swiftly transported to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital for urgent medical attention, with one unfortunate victim succumbing to injuries en route to the hospital.
As of the latest updates, the remaining victims are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital, with medical personnel striving to stabilize their conditions.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the building collapse, as efforts to ensure the safety of construction sites across the region intensify in the wake of this tragic incident.
