
Ado-Ekiti, the capital city of Ekiti State, witnessed another tragic incident on Saturday, July 6, as a yet-to-be-identified middle-aged woman was fatally shot by unknown assailants.
According to reports from Saturday Telegraph, the incident took place in the early hours near the Federal Polytechnic Continuing Education Center, off NTA Road, Ado-Ekiti. The victim, who has not been officially identified, was standing by the roadside when she was approached by assailants riding a motorcycle.
Eyewitnesses recounted that the gunmen attempted to snatch the woman’s bag. When she resisted, they shot her, causing her immediate death at the scene. The sudden violence sent bystanders fleeing in panic.
Confirming the incident, DSP Sunday Abutu, the Public Relations Officer of the Ekiti State Police Command, described it as a robbery. He disclosed that the victim's bag, which was targeted by the assailants, contained the sum of ₦40,280. The police have since retrieved the victim's body and conveyed it to the morgue, while efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators.
The incident has sparked concerns among residents of Ado-Ekiti about security in the area, with calls for enhanced police patrols and vigilance among community members.
