Dentist Charged With Manslaughter Over Death Of Patient

French prosecutors have charged a British dentist with manslaughter over the death of a 68-year-old patient in France, they and local media said Tuesday.

The dentist had been practising in France after being struck off the dental register in the United Kingdom, the prosecutor’s office in the southwestern city of Bordeaux said.

He is now also banned from practising dentistry in France, and from leaving the country, it said.

The patient was a 68-year-old retiree from the overseas territory of Guadeloupe who decided to have dental implants fitted while visiting her children in the southwestern region of Gironde, regional newspaper Sud Ouest had reported on Monday.

She underwent the procedure on July 3 last year and died of cardiac arrest the next day in a Bordeaux hospital.

A second dentist and their assistant were also charged with failing to assist the patient, and also barred from leaving the country, the prosecutor’s office said.
