In response to the tragic collapse of a school building in the Busa Buji area of Jos North Local Government Area, the Plateau State Government has issued a heartfelt plea for blood donations to support the treatment of rescued pupils.
Mr. Musa Ashom, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, emphasized the urgent need for blood donations in a statement released Friday evening from Jos. The collapse has resulted in numerous casualties, prompting the government to mobilize resources for immediate medical assistance.
"We appeal to the compassion and solidarity of the public to donate blood at major and government hospitals across the city," Commissioner Ashom stated, stressing the critical role of blood donations in saving lives during such emergencies.
The appeal has been broadcasted regularly on state-owned radio and television stations to encourage all able-bodied individuals to contribute to the relief efforts. The Plateau Specialists Hospital has been designated as a central facility for blood donations to efficiently manage the influx of donors and streamline the distribution of blood to hospitals treating the injured.
Authorities have assured the public that all necessary measures are in place to facilitate the donation process and ensure the safety of donors amidst ongoing rescue and medical operations.
"We appreciate the swift response of our citizens and the solidarity shown during this challenging time. Together, we can make a difference and provide vital support to those affected by this tragic incident," Commissioner Ashom concluded.
Residents of Plateau State are urged to heed the call for blood donations and contribute generously to assist in the recovery and care of the victims recovering from the school building collapse.
