The Nigeria Air Force Component of Operation Whirl Punch successfully eliminated several terrorists in a series of airstrikes across various locations in Kaduna State, according to a statement by Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force.

The operations, carried out on July 12, 2024, targeted the enclave of a known terrorist, Alhaji Layi, in Kufan Shantu Village, Giwa Local Government Area (LGA). The strikes resulted in the elimination of multiple terrorists, the destruction of their thatched huts, and the obliteration of their logistics hidden under dense foliage.

"Similar air strikes conducted on July 13, 2024, over terrorists' camps inside Malum Forest in Igabi LGA also recorded positive outcomes," stated Gabkwet. He noted that precision strikes were authorized after targets were identified, leading to the elimination of most terrorists observed loitering around a compound with zinc-roofed structures.

The operations were based on credible human intelligence and extensive intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions, which identified the targeted locations as terrorist enclaves. These terrorists were believed to be responsible for the ambush on troops at Manini on July 10, 2024.

The Nigerian Air Force, in collaboration with ground forces, plans to maintain its dominance in the region through continuous situational awareness, regular patrols, and targeted strikes on terrorist safe havens within its Area of Responsibility and neighboring states.
