The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended a woman carrying 573 rounds of 7.60 live ammunition on the Kaduna-Zaria highway. The 32-year-old suspect, identified as Ubaida Aliyu, reportedly admitted that she intended to deliver the ammunition to bandits in Sokoto.
According to a statement released on Sunday by NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, Aliyu was intercepted during a routine stop-and-search operation conducted by NDLEA operatives on Saturday, July 27. The arrest highlights the agency's ongoing efforts to combat illegal activities and curb the supply of arms to criminal groups in the region.
"The operatives, while conducting a search on the Kaduna-Zaria highway, intercepted Ubaida Aliyu in possession of 573 rounds of 7.60 live ammunition," Babafemi stated. "She confessed that the ammunition was meant for bandits operating in Sokoto."
The NDLEA continues to work closely with other security agencies to address the growing threat of banditry and ensure the safety and security of citizens across Nigeria. The arrest of Aliyu underscores the importance of these coordinated efforts in disrupting the supply chains of criminal networks.
Further investigations are underway to determine the source of the ammunition and to identify any accomplices involved in the illegal operation. The NDLEA has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
