Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ahmed Doma, said the command received a report that two men, who were riding on motorcycle, shot and killed a police officer, after a robbery operation at Uche Kings International Company, near Railway station, in the town.
The manager of the building material store, near the police outpost, Mr Chukwudi Ezenwa, while narrating the incident, said around 5.15 p.m on Tuesday, three persons stormed his store, ordering him and some other people at gunpoint to lie down while demanding for money.
He said all of them in the store, including customers, complied with the order, adding that a sum of over N500,000 was carted away from them.
“They have robbed me of the sum of N202,130, while N370,000 was carted away from a female customer that came to make some purchases in the store,” he said.
In a related development, robbers on motor cycle, on Monday, attacked a retail communication produce store in daylight, in Gombe and carted away undisclosed amount of money.
The state PPRO said an inspector of police, Ibrahim Adamu, who was off duty that day and was in mufti, while crossing the road within the premises of the police outpost, was shot dead by the robbers during the operation.
He said so far, no arrest had been made, adding that the state police command had since swung into action, to unearth the perpetrators and bring them to book.
