A police officer in Kano, where protests against bad governance and economic hardship have escalated into violence, was caught on video threatening to kill protesters.
The unrest in the historic northern city saw hoodlums looting government and private properties, leading to violent clashes with security forces. The chaos peaked at the Government House in Kano, prompting authorities to impose a curfew on Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s orders.
Despite the restrictions, some protesters continued to confront security forces on the streets. A video circulating online shows a policeman, speaking in Hausa, making threats amid the turmoil.
The officer is heard saying,

“Keep looting. Is it because I did not do what I had done to them? Those throwing stones should not stop. I swear to God, if police officers bleed, I will kill. I swear to God I will kill.”
The situation in Kano remains tense as authorities grapple with restoring order while addressing the grievances fueling the protests.
