Afrobeats sensation Stanley Omah Didia, widely known as Omah Lay, has shared insights into how his recent incarceration in Uganda has profoundly influenced his life and career.
Omah Lay and fellow artist Tems were detained in Uganda following their participation in a concert at Speke Resort, Kampala, on December 12, 2020. The event, held amidst stringent COVID-19 restrictions, led to their arrest and subsequent court charges. After spending three days in detention, both artists were granted bail.
In a candid interview with Amazon Music, Omah Lay discussed the personal transformation he underwent during his imprisonment. The experience, he revealed, deepened his appreciation for freedom, a sentiment that now permeates his music.
"After spending those three days in a cell, my appreciation for freedom intensified," Omah Lay shared. "I channel this newfound reverence into every record I make. While I don't want to overly credit Uganda for my imprisonment, it undeniably shifted my perspective on what freedom means."
Omah Lay, known for his hit single "Soso," emphasized that the ordeal has enhanced his resolve to express his passion for freedom through his music.
