Swedish football manager Janne Andersson is set to be announced as the new head coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, according to sources within the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). The official announcement is expected later this week.
Andersson, 61, will be stepping into the role following the resignation of Finidi George two months ago. This will mark Andersson's first coaching stint in Africa.
Previously, Andersson managed the Swedish national team from 2016 to 2023. Under his leadership, Sweden made a significant impact on the international stage, including qualifying for the FIFA World Cup for the first time in 12 years in 2018. During that tournament, Sweden topped Group F, which included South Korea, Mexico, and the then-reigning champions Germany, before being knocked out by England in the quarter-finals.
The Super Eagles are preparing for crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers next month, where they will face Benin Republic and Rwanda.
