Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has issued a stern warning to any governor attempting to meddle in the affairs of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State. Wike made his intentions clear during the PDP state congress held at the party's secretariat on Saturday, August 31.
The former Rivers State governor, known for his fiery rhetoric, vowed to unleash political chaos in the states of any governor who tries to seize control of the PDP structure in Rivers. "Let me assure all of you, not while we live will anybody take away the structure of PDP from us," Wike declared. "I hear some governors say they will take over the structure and give it back to somebody else. I pity those governors because I will put fire in their states."
Wike specifically singled out Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, cautioning him and other governors against challenging his influence in Rivers State. "I heard they got some money from a signature bonus, and now their heads are getting big, thinking they can interfere in my state," Wike warned. "Prepare yourselves, because I have the capacity to do the same in your state. Whether you're from Bauchi or any other state, if you try to meddle in Rivers State, your hand will get burnt, and you will never sleep peacefully in your state."
Wike's outburst follows a recent meeting of PDP governors in Taraba State, where they addressed the escalating political tension between Wike and his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara. In a communique read by Governor Bala Mohammed, the PDP Governors' Forum expressed support for Fubara, criticizing the use of court judgments to influence the outcome of the party's congresses in Rivers State.
"The Forum notes the political impasse in Rivers State, where court judgments are employed to determine the outcome of the party congresses," the communique stated. "The PDP Governors’ Forum stands with the Governor of Rivers State and will engage the National Working Committee (NWC) of our great party to revisit the congress with a view to correcting the anomaly and allowing His Excellency Governor Siminalayi Fubara to take his rightful leadership position in the state."
Wike's remarks have added fuel to an already tense situation, signaling potential conflicts within the PDP as the party grapples with internal power struggles.
