The Katsina State Police Command has arrested 15 individuals in connection with a range of criminal activities, including armed robbery, in the state.
According to a statement released on Friday by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, the arrests were made on September 8, 2024, following an intelligence-led operation conducted by officers attached to the Funtua Area Command around 2:00 a.m.
Among the apprehended suspects was a seven-man syndicate of armed robbers accused of intercepting a motorist transporting wrappers and materials valued at approximately N4 million. The group allegedly set up a blockade using stones on the Kano-Zaria road, forcing the driver to stop. The robbers then tied up the driver and transferred the stolen goods into two vehicles: a Volkswagen Golf III with registration number KMC 850 AJ, and a Ford Focus with registration number RBC 873 XP.
Police recovered both vehicles along with 94 bundles of wrappers and lace materials, as well as two additional bundles of fabric, all estimated to be worth N4 million.
Further investigations revealed that the suspects had also stolen grains and cooking oil on multiple occasions, using the same vehicles to carry out their crimes. The investigation remains ongoing.
