In a shocking incident, Ogun State Police have arrested Ogidan Mustapha for allegedly dismembering the hands of a 13-year-old girl, Oriyomi Adegboyega, in the Sagamu Local Government Area.
The suspect was apprehended around 1:30 a.m. on Friday while attempting to dispose of the girl's body near the Igbosoro River in Igode village. Authorities reported that the remains were wrapped in a mat.
Police Public Relations Officer Omolola Odutola confirmed that Mustapha's arrest followed intelligence from a sister security agency. During the operation, three additional suspects were also detained for aiding in digging a grave for the deceased.
According to Peace Adegboyega, the girl's mother, Oriyomi had tragically died of electrocution on Thursday morning. She expressed shock upon learning that her neighbor had been found with her daughter's dismembered remains, stating that plans were already in place for the girl's burial.
Upon searching Mustapha’s residence, police discovered two English pump-action rifles and various local charms.
Odutola detailed the circumstances of the arrest: “An intelligence report alerted the divisional police officer of Igode, who then tracked a suspicious movement to a bush near Igbosoro River. There, they caught Ogidan Mustapha as he attempted to dispose of the corpse.”
Upon interrogation, Mustapha denied dismembering the girl but claimed he had assisted her father, Sunday Adegboyega, in burying her far from home. He insisted he was given a complete body to transport.
The suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further inquiry and potential prosecution as the investigation continues.
