The Kaduna State Police Command has announced the arrest of a notorious gunrunner along with the recovery of 20 locally fabricated AK-47 rifles. The operation took place on September 19, 2024, during a routine patrol by officers from the Buruku Division in Chikun Local Government Area.

According to a statement by the Command’s Spokesperson, ASP Mansir Hassan, the police intercepted a suspicious black Golf III saloon car at Buruku Bridge around 4:00 PM. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed the hidden arsenal, including 20 homemade AK-47 rifles and an empty Type 06 magazine stashed in the boot.

The suspect, identified as Bitrus Gyang from Barkin Ladi in Plateau State, confessed during interrogation to his involvement in gunrunning activities, claiming to have transported similar weapons on at least three occasions. He is reportedly cooperating with authorities as efforts continue to locate his accomplices.

Police Commissioner Audu Dabigi praised the officers for their vigilance and commitment, assuring the public that measures are in place to ensure that kidnappers and bandits face relentless pressure throughout the state.
