A 38-year-old man, Belema Ibama, has been arrested by the Rivers State Police Command for allegedly luring women through online dating platforms, drugging, segxwally assaulting, and robbing them. The father of four girls reportedly posed as a British engineer named "Mr. Anderson" to deceive his victims.
According to the police, Ibama, who had been operating under the alias since 2019, targeted women on platforms like Tinder and Bumble. He would invite them to hotels, where he would drug their drinks, assault them, and steal their belongings. Over 20 women have come forward to accuse the suspect of segxwal abuse and theft.
Police investigations revealed that Ibama had a criminal history. He was previously arrested by the Delta State Police in 2020 on similar charges but jumped bail and fled to Port Harcourt. In 2021, he was remanded in prison for six months but was discharged due to a lack of witnesses. After his release in 2022, he resumed his criminal activities, allegedly victimizing over 20 women before his recent arrest in May 2024.
One of his victims recounted how she met Ibama through Tinder and arranged to meet at a hotel in Port Harcourt. During their meeting, he drugged her, and when she regained consciousness, her iPhone, cash, and other valuables were missing. She reported the incident to the police, which sparked the investigation leading to his arrest.
During the arrest, the police found pills suspected to be Tramadol and Rohypnol, along with 15 mobile phones, women’s watches, and handbags believed to belong to his victims. Ibama confessed to using aliases like "Engineer Val Anderson" to lure women and revealed his tactic for obtaining their ATM pins by memorizing the numbers during transactions before robbing them.
The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
