A corps member, Mr. Louis Ngaka, has dragged a medical doctor, Dr Augustine Udo, before an Eket High Court in Akwa Ibom State for administering a banned drug on him.

Joined in the suit as second defendant is a nurse, Miss Rebecca Akpan, who allegedly administered the banned drug, Analgin, on the plaintiff, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

He said he was rushed to the Eket-based private clinic on December 3, 2010 after he was involved in a road accident.

According to a writ of summons from the Eket High Court, the plaintiff claimed that the two fingers of his right hand were amputated following the adverse reactions from the banned drug caused by the negligence of the defendants.

The plaintiff claimed that the banned drug was allegedly administered on him as an injection on his right arm.

Ngaka is praying the court to award him the N50m as general damages for the adverse effects he suffered from the banned drug. The plaintiff also claimed that there might be an outright amputation of his right hand, thereby causing him permanent incapacitation and disability.

Huh? But I can remember being administered with analgin about 8/9 yrs ago because of a severe backache and the nagging ache left me almost instantly. But I can also remember a warning was pasted everywhere around the hospital that no nurse should administer analgin except the MD said so. It's a very strong drug.......Well, the authorities must have very good reason(s) for its banning and the hospital should be shut for even stocking a banned product not to talk of administering it but let's hear from the defendants......
