The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Osun State has successfully thwarted an armed robbery attempt and recovered a stolen vehicle in the Onibu-Eja community along the Iwo-Ibadan road. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon, as confirmed by NSCDC Commandant Michael Adaralewa in a statement issued on Sunday.
According to the report, the robbery unfolded around 3:25 PM when a four-man gang of armed robbers stormed a residence in the community, forcibly taking a vehicle from a family at gunpoint. Upon receiving a distress call from concerned residents, NSCDC officers on patrol swiftly mobilized to the scene.
“Immediately after the gang left, members of the community made a distress call to NSCDC, Osun State Command for assistance,” the statement read. The NSCDC officers engaged the suspects in a fierce gun battle, forcing them to flee and abandon the stolen vehicle.
The recovered Toyota Corolla, with chassis number 1NXBU40E49Z005008, is currently in the custody of the NSCDC in Osun State. Commandant Adaralewa noted that investigations are underway to apprehend the fleeing robbers and ensure they face justice.
Adaralewa praised the rapid response and bravery of his officers in preventing the robbery, sending a warning to potential criminals in the region. “Criminally minded individuals in the state should reconsider their choices or be prepared to face the full force of the law,” he stated.
He also expressed gratitude to the public for their timely information, assuring them that the NSCDC is committed to maintaining the trust placed in it by the community.
