President Bola Tinubu has expressed relief over the safe return of the Super Eagles team to Nigeria following their harrowing experience at a Libyan airport.

The Nigerian national football team, held under inhumane conditions for several hours, was forced to withdraw from their scheduled Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Libya on Tuesday.

Speaking in a press statement issued on Monday by its Special Adviser on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu condemned the treatment of the Super Eagles by Libyan authorities.

President Tinubu described it as a violation of both sportsmanship and human dignity.

The President has urged the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.

Also, he requested that those responsible be held accountable for breaching CAF’s Statutes and Regulations.

Tinubu also praised the swift response by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Federal Ministry of Sports Development in ensuring the players’ safe return.

He commended the resilience of the Super Eagles despite the ordeal.

Tinubu reaffirmed his belief in football as a unifying force for nations and people.

Send airplanes to Libya, force all our people back home. Then round up their ambassador in Abuja and hang him !
