
The Niger State Police have apprehended 16 individuals in Minna for thuggery, public disturbance, and possession of dangerous weapons. The arrests highlight the police's ongoing commitment to maintaining law and order in the state.
Police spokesperson SP Wasiu Abiodun confirmed the arrests, stating that the suspects, aged between 14 and 24, were apprehended during a raid at a hotel near the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Secretariat on October 15, 2024. Acting on a tip-off, officers discovered the group in possession of various weapons, including cutlasses, knives, and illegal substances such as cannabis.
Abiodun noted that the suspects claimed they were celebrating a birthday and needed the weapons for protection against a rival gang known as the Kafintella boys. He assured the public that the suspects are under investigation and will face prosecution for their actions.
In a related operation, police arrested 30 additional suspects in Angwan-Roka and Maitumbi. Meanwhile, a suspect named Shabban Umar was detained in Bajego with sharp scissors in his possession.
On October 14, 2024, police in Suleja also apprehended three suspects involved in the theft of a N30 million tipper truck. The stolen vehicle was discovered in a workshop, where it was being dismantled for resale. All suspects are currently under investigation.
Additionally, on October 16, 2024, a suspected phone thief named Jamilu Ismail was caught in Maje, Suleja. Ismail, who had been using deceptive tactics to steal mobile phones, was found with three stolen devices and is also under investigation.
