Popular Nigerian crossdresser Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, was released from Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) custody on Saturday, November 2, following his detainment over alleged bribery accusations involving N15 million.
Bobrisky was reportedly apprehended at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Thursday night while attempting to board a KLM flight to Amsterdam, en route to London. From there, he was transferred to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, where he was questioned about alleged bribery related to money laundering charges.
The controversy began when social critic Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, shared a voice recording claiming Bobrisky had paid N15 million to EFCC officials to dismiss charges against him. However, during his time at the EFCC, Bobrisky refuted the bribery allegations, challenging Otse to substantiate his claims.
A source close to the investigation told *Vanguard*, "He denied everything about releasing money to any official as a bribe to drop the money laundering charges against him. In his statement, he maintained that nobody within the EFCC requested or received any money from him."
Bobrisky has since demanded proof of the alleged recording, asserting that the accusations are entirely baseless. The EFCC has yet to release an official statement on the matter, as Bobrisky’s release continues to fuel widespread public interest and speculation.
