Tragedy struck on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway on Sunday morning as a multiple-vehicle collision left one man dead and numerous others injured, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed.
The accident occurred around 9:30 a.m. at the Ile-Epo Bus Stop, Oko-Afa, when a fully loaded truck collided with several other vehicles, sparking a chain reaction. The vehicles involved included a truck (registration number FFF 754 XB), a Cross Country Transport Hummer bus (registration number MUS 210 YJ), a Volkswagon commercial bus (registration number LSR 166 YE), and a Nissan sedan, whose registration details were not immediately available.
LASEMA's Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, reported that the agency’s emergency response team, activated from the Igando base after distress calls, arrived promptly to manage the scene. “Upon arrival, it was confirmed that one adult male lost his life, and several others sustained injuries,” Oke-Osanyintolu said in a statement.
Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officials transported the injured to nearby hospitals and, as confirmed by LASEMA, deposited the deceased victim’s body in the morgue prior to the agency’s arrival.
Investigation into the cause of the accident is underway, while authorities continue to urge caution along the busy Lagos-Badagry route.
