A Chief Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, recently sentenced Jide Josiah Jisos to six months in prison, or an alternative fine of N100,000, for impersonation during the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Chief Magistrate Hon. Justice Folashade Oyekan delivered the ruling on October 24, 2024.
Jisos was caught by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) officials at Brix Academy in Abuja, where he claimed to be an NGO representative monitoring the examination.
However, JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, explained that Jisos raised suspicion when he struggled to explain his affiliation and purpose at the exam venue.
Upon further investigation, Jisos admitted he was not affiliated with any NGO and had entered the examination hall with the intent of helping his daughter during the UTME.
He was subsequently detained and later prosecuted for his actions.
