Popular American rapper Cardi B, has responded to critics who mocked her for reading from her phone during a speech at a rally supporting Vice President Kamala Harris.
In a heartfelt video posted to TikTok, Cardi B addressed the criticism, defending her efforts and pushing back against comments like Elon Musk’s, who previously dismissed her as a “puppet who can’t even talk without being fed the words.”
“I worked so hard, bro. I worked so hard on my speech and a lot of y’all talkin’ about like ‘Oh why are you reading it from your phone?'” she said. “B****, I had to write that s*** down.”
The rapper explained that, as a mother of three, she often rehearses what she wants to say, even practicing in the shower.
“And you know what, I forget what I be telling,” she admitted.
“I’ll be like d*** I was in the f***ing shower for 30 minutes. But you know what, then when I be face-to-face, I be forgetting.”
She added, “So you know, when it comes to this s*** right here, Iet you know what I’ve been wanting to say, but I had to make sure I ain’t forget, so I wrote that s*** the f*** down.”
Cardi B assured her fans they’d hear her reasons for supporting Harris in the 2024 presidential race, expressing pride in herself for delivering the speech despite the hurdles.
“Y’all gonna hear what the f*** I had to say and I’m proud of myself,” she said, adding that she often has to remind herself to celebrate her accomplishments.
“But like yo, I really did that s***. Like a b*** was really stripping on poles and all, and I’m here.”
She also praised Vice President Harris, saying, “After meeting Harris, I realized like yo, she means f***ing business, she’s a f***ing boss. And she’s really determined to win this s***.”
