A disturbing incident has emerged from the northern town of Mubi, where a 19-year-old teenager, Aliyu Yaro, is accused of killing his newborn child following a dispute over parental responsibility.
According to police investigations, the tragic event unfolded after Yaro’s girlfriend, Safiya, who recently gave birth, repeatedly urged him to assume responsibility for the baby, warning she might abandon the infant if he did not act. Yaro allegedly responded by visiting Safiya's home late at night. Once there, he reportedly sent her on an errand and took the three-day-old baby to his own residence.
Police sources say Yaro admitted to feeding the infant with sour milk, leading to the child’s death within hours. He then buried the baby’s body around 9:00 p.m. in the Girpata area of Mubi, according to his statement.
The Adamawa Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the case and noted that State Commissioner of Police, Morris Dankombo, has ordered the transfer of the case to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation and legal action against both Yaro and Safiya.
