The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State, over allegations of financial misconduct during his tenure. Bello is accused of mismanaging state funds, embezzlement, and money laundering involving sums of up to ₦110 billion. He was taken into custody in Abuja on November 26, 2024, where he is currently being interrogated.
This arrest follows previous charges filed against him, including a ₦80.2 billion money laundering case. Earlier this year, the EFCC had issued warrants and declared him wanted after he failed to appear for arraignment. In addition, accusations surfaced that Bello used public funds for personal expenses, such as paying his child’s school fees abroad. His legal case has been ongoing, with hearings previously adjourned to accommodate various procedural issues
