The Nigeria Police Force has apprehended five suspected arms dealers allegedly involved in trans-border weapons trafficking and recovered a significant cache of firearms and ammunition during a recent operation.
Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed in a statement on Friday that the suspects were nabbed by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department-Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) on November 18.
The arrested individuals, identified as Adamu Noma, Matthew Audu, Andrew Poyi, Aminu Sani, and Aminu Talha, are believed to be part of a larger network facilitating illegal arms trafficking across borders.
Recovered Arsenal
Adejobi revealed that a search of the suspects led to the recovery of:
- 10 locally fabricated AK-47 rifles
- 5 Israeli-manufactured AK-47 rifles
- 1 revolver pistol
- 1 pump-action shotgun
- 20 rounds of AK-47 ammunition
- 1 welding machine used for fabricating firearms
National Security Efforts
The police spokesperson praised the operatives' efforts, stating that the arrests and recoveries underscore the commitment of the Nigeria Police to combating crime and enhancing public safety.
“These feats, along with several others recorded by police operatives across the country, demonstrate the steadfastness and commitment of the current police leadership to decimate criminal activities and tackle insecurity nationwide,” Adejobi said.
The suspects remain in custody, while investigations continue to identify and apprehend other members of the trafficking network. This operation reflects the ongoing resolve of security agencies to dismantle criminal syndicates and safeguard the country.
