Tragedy struck in Abeokuta, Ogun State, as a man identified as Fatai Hamzat was discovered dead in an apparent case of suicide. The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that Hamzat’s body was found early Friday morning.
According to a neighbor who requested anonymity, the discovery was made after noticing Hamzat’s motorcycle parked in the compound. Concerned by his absence, the neighbor attempted to reach him but found his door locked from the inside.
After repeated calls went unanswered, neighbors forced open a window and were met with a grim sight—Hamzat’s body hanging from a rope tied to a ceiling fan.
Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola confirmed the incident, noting that the body has been taken to a nearby hospital morgue for an autopsy.
“The deceased was found hanging in his apartment after neighbors raised the alarm. Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident,” Odutola said.
The tragic event has left the community in shock, as residents await more information from the authorities.
