A truck driver, Olalere Timileyin, and his conductor have been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command after allegedly beating a man to death over claims of stealing a tarpaulin. The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, December 13, 2024.
According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, the assault was reported by one Alao Fadipe, a resident of Iyana Ikereku. Fadipe informed the police that he witnessed a violent altercation in front of his house around 3 a.m. Upon approaching the scene, Fadipe observed that Timileyin, a truck driver associated with a cement factory in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area, and his conductor were beating a man whom they accused of stealing a tarpaulin.
The victim, who was reportedly attacked until he lost consciousness, was later confirmed dead. Police have taken Timileyin and his conductor into custody, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
