The Benue State Police Command has arrested a driver from CHEC Construction Company, Taraku Camp, and a native doctor for their involvement in an alleged theft. The driver, identified as Aondoaver Viaga, was entrusted with a truck to transport stones from Ohimini Local Government Area (LGA) to Mase in Gwer-East LGA for a road construction project. However, the truck was diverted to an unknown location.
In a statement issued by the Benue State Police Command spokesperson, SP Catherine Anene, it was revealed that Viaga, along with the native doctor, Veror Orduen, were apprehended in possession of the stolen vehicle at Ikyurav in the Kwande Local Government Area.
The investigation disclosed that Viaga had taken the truck to Orduen’s residence and kept it there for four days, while also switching off his phone. The driver failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for his actions.
Benue State Commissioner of Police, Steve Yabanet, condemned the crime and issued a stern warning to criminals in the state. He stated, “I am not ready to accommodate criminals. I will work tirelessly to ensure that Benue remains safe during the festive period and beyond.”
