The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested three businessmen in connection with the seizure of methamphetamine and Loud cannabis, with a street value exceeding ₦2 billion.

The agency revealed on Sunday, December 15, that the drugs, concealed within automobile spare parts imported from Canada, were intercepted at the Tincan Seaport in Lagos after months of coordinated intelligence tracking spanning three continents.

The illicit substances, totaling 83.301 kilograms, were discovered in two separate containers on December 12 and 13, 2024. These containers, reportedly destined for the Ladipo Market in Mushin, Lagos, were flagged during inspections following suspicious activity detected by NDLEA operatives.

On December 12, a container at the Sifax bonded terminal was examined, leading to the recovery of 5.001 kilograms of methamphetamine wrapped in a bed sheet inside a Toyota Camry. A suspect, Isaac Onwumere, linked to the shipment, was subsequently arrested.

The following day, another container was intercepted, revealing 1,735 parcels of Loud cannabis (weighing 867.5kg) and 87 packs of methamphetamine (weighing 78.3kg). Two suspects, Nwanolue Emeka and Friday Ogbe, were taken into custody in connection with the haul.

The methamphetamine shipment, weighing 83.301 kilograms, is valued at ₦124.95 million, while the Loud cannabis, weighing 867.5 kilograms, carries an estimated street worth of ₦2.17 billion.

The NDLEA disclosed that its tracking efforts began in October 2024 when the shipments were identified in Toronto, Canada. Both consignments followed a route through Montreal and Antwerp, Belgium, before arriving in Lagos on December 1 and December 6, respectively. The operation was conducted in collaboration with customs and other port stakeholders.

The agency reiterated its commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks and urged the public to report suspicious activities.
