
In a decisive move against crude oil theft in the Niger Delta region, troops conducting anti-illegal bunkering operations deactivated 42 illegal oil refining sites and apprehended 29 suspects between December 9 and 15, 2024.
According to a statement from the Nigerian Army, the operations resulted in the recovery of 197,000 liters of stolen crude oil and the confiscation of 32 boats, 12 vehicles, and eight motorcycles used in economic sabotage.

In Bayelsa State, significant progress was made:
- **Biseni Forest, Yenagoa LGA**: Troops dismantled four newly established refining sites, recovering 37,000 liters of stolen crude oil.
- **Okordia Forest, Benkrukru Area**: Soldiers intercepted 29,900 liters of stolen crude and 2,000 liters of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) near the Oando Wellhead.
- **Nembe LGA**: An illegal refining site was dismantled in the Olukama and Sabasuo areas, with over 5,000 liters of stolen crude retrieved.
- **Igbomotoru Creek, Southern Ijaw**: A concealed wooden boat carrying over 1,000 liters of stolen crude oil was uncovered.
Successes in Rivers State
Operations in Rivers State also dealt a heavy blow to oil thieves:
- **Kula, Akuku-Toru LGA**: Troops shut down three illegal refining sites and confiscated over 30,000 liters of stolen crude oil.
- **Bille, Degema LGA**: Two refining sites and two wooden boats with 4,000 liters of stolen crude were seized.
- **Imo River Axis**: A total of 13 illegal refining sites were destroyed, and 28,500 liters of stolen products were recovered.
Delta State Crackdown
In Delta State, troops dismantled an active refining site in Aronwon Community, Warri North LGA, seizing five ovens, a boat, and 5,000 liters of illegally refined AGO. Additionally, three tanker trucks loaded with suspected illicit AGO were intercepted in Uvwie LGA, leading to the arrest of five individuals.
Military Vows Sustained Effort
Major General Jamal Abdussalam, General Officer Commanding the 6 Division, commended the troops for their diligence and assured that the operations would continue as part of efforts to meet December 2024 targets.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating crude oil theft and restoring economic stability in the Niger Delta region.
