The Anambra State Government, in collaboration with the Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra Brigade (OCHA), has arrested a suspected human trafficker and rescued 13 children in a major crackdown.

The suspect, identified as Angela Okechukwu, a resident of Umuzumbala in Nnewi North Local Government Area, was apprehended on Friday for allegedly running a human trafficking cartel.

According to Celestine Anere, Managing Director of OCHA Brigade, the children, aged between two and 12 years, were found in a deplorable state of health. "The poor condition of these children is deeply concerning. This operation underscores the government's commitment to eradicating illegal activities in Anambra," he said.

Anere warned criminal elements to desist or face severe consequences, stating, “The state government will not relent in cracking down on all forms of illegality. Those involved in such heinous acts must leave or face the law.”

Residents of the community praised the government for its decisive action. A local, Ikechukwu Nnabuike, commended the swift intervention, saying, “This is a significant step toward eradicating child trafficking in our community.”

The rescued children are now under the care of the state’s Ministry of Women Affairs, which is providing medical attention and shelter. Investigations into the case are ongoing, with authorities pledging to bring all involved to justice.
