A 64-year-old Nigerian woman, Mrs. Uzoma Chinyere Ndubuisi, has been left stranded at Cairo International Airport after EgyptAir allegedly seized her passport upon arrival, causing her to miss her connecting flight to the United Kingdom.
Ndubuisi, who was en route to Manchester, claims that upon arriving at Cairo Airport, her passport was taken for immigration clearance and not returned for over three hours. During this time, she was left at the airport without any assistance or support from the airline.
In an interview with reporters, Ndubuisi described the lack of help from EgyptAir, stating that despite the airline's awareness of her situation, she was left without accommodation or proper provisions, including food and water. She also expressed frustration over the airline's failure to follow through on their promise of assistance.
Her connecting flight to Manchester, which was scheduled for 8:55 AM, was missed when the transportation to the airport arrived late. By the time she arrived at the terminal, the flight had already departed.
Her son, Obinna Okali, has filed a formal petition to EgyptAir, demanding accountability for the airline's alleged negligence. In the petition, Okali accused EgyptAir staff of unhelpful behavior, which he believes contributed to his mother missing her flight.
“The actions of EgyptAir staff directly contributed to my mother missing her flight. Yet, they have shown no consideration for her welfare or empathy for her situation,” Okali wrote.
He went on to describe the emotional and physical toll on his mother, who had been left without basic necessities and was under immense mental distress at the airport for hours.
Okali has called on EgyptAir to immediately rebook his mother on the next available flight to Manchester and provide compensation for the trauma she endured.
"I kindly request an immediate resolution, including rebooking my mother on the next available flight and offering compensation for the physical and emotional trauma," he stated in the petition.
He also issued a warning to the airline, saying, “Should anything untoward happen to our mother during this ordeal, we will hold EgyptAir entirely responsible."
At the time of writing, EgyptAir has not responded publicly to the allegations or addressed the concerns raised by Ndubuisi’s family.
